CHOOSING FABRICS: • Fabric 1: lightest value, large-scale print (floral print in sample) • Fabric 2: darkest value, medium-scale print (blue in sample) • Fabric 3: medium value, small-scale print (pink in sample) • Backing fabric • Binding fabric: complementary fabric of your choice • All strips are cut the width of the fabric (WOF), approximately 42” to 45” (107cm to 114cm). • Fabric used for the quilt back must measure at least 43” (109cm) wide. SMALL QUILT (SHOWN) Finished Blocks: 7” × 14” (18cm × 36cm) Finished Quilt: 42” × 42” (107cm × 107cm) TWIN QUILT Finished Blocks: 7” × 14” (18cm × 36cm) Finished Quilt: 63” × 84” (160cm × 213cm) CONSTRUCT THE A BLOCK 1 Make the strip set.

Press seam allowances of even-numbered rows in one direction; press seam allowances of odd-numbered rows in the opposite direction. Sew the rows together to complete the quilt top. Twin Quilt Symmetrical Layout 3 Carefully press and square off the quilt top, and prepare the backing and batting. Layer and pin the quilt, referring to page 36. 4 For functional quilting, stitch-in-the-ditch around each block and along the seams of the accent fabric that forms the T shape. Use the template provided on page 120 for more decorative quilting.

Each block should measure 10½” × 10½” (27cm × 27cm). Make sixteen blocks for the small quilt or forty-eight for the twin quilt. ASSEMBLE AND FINISH THE QUILT 1 Arrange the blocks in any design that you like, either symmetrically or randomly. It may help to lay them out on a bed or on the floor. 2 For the small quilt, sew the blocks into four rows of four blocks. For the twin quilt, sew the blocks into eight rows of six blocks. Press seam allowances of even-numbered rows in one direction; press seam allowances of odd-numbered rows in the opposite direction.
